More seriously they could be useful for just about anything. Quite a few species would have applications as service animals, in the medical field, and countless other professions. Sun and Moon had a lot of examples: Rotom used as an adaptive interface for technology, Grimer used for garbage disposal, Porygon used to do maintenance on satellites, etc.
