not a super cool kid, my profile page was pimped out with lots of HTML bling and decor. One of the things you could make to add to your profile back then was custom Pokemon trainer ID cards, similar to what you got in the game back then but with more options. It was basically a neat way to share your trainer ID for online features. You’d choose what all Pokemon you wanted displayed on your team, your background color, badges, etc. and you could choose any trainer sprite in any of the games that you wanted to represent you as a trainer. So anyway, the only trainer who looked the closest thing to what I actually looked like IRL back in Gen 4 was sadly Volkner, so I used him as my stand in (for the record, we don’t actually look very similar, there were just no short-haired blonde female trainers back then. Also Volkner looked badass). I think I grew a soft spot for him from there. He was a bit relatable on too many levels. I could go on but I won’t, but that’s my stupid love story.
