>>34882908>I've heard that everything since sky has been shit, is this trueOnly nostalgiafags say that shit T B H, I recently played through every title chronologically for the first time.
I personally list them Super>Explorers>Gates>Rescue Team
Super hands down has the best gameplay in the series. It goes back to the series roguelike roots and really puts an emphasis on item usage and randomized abilities that change each run. The story is not the best but it's enjoyable enough and very well localized. Soundtrack is fucking kino, on top of stealing the best songs from Gates and remixing some Explorers and Rescue Team songs.
Sky is the leader of the bunch, you know it well. Most well-rounded title in terms of gameplay and story. Most amount of story-focused postgame content in the series with the second story arc and special episodes. Too many fucking flashbacks, and every sentence ends with your fucking name stop saying it for fuck's sake.
Gates' gameplay is pretty fucking abysmal. While selecting moves became a lot better, the zoomed in camera and slow as fucking molasses text speeds make this a slog to play through. All said and done though, the autistic VN story content you play this shit series for is at it's best here. Your mileage may vary, but this story really resonated with me and had me blubbering my ass off by the end, and the damn good soundtrack helped it do that. Postgame content is laughable.
I hope you like Gen V.Rescue Team is one of the most nostalgic games on the planet for me, but it has aged pretty poorly compared to its brethren. The campaign is like 6 hours long if you stretch it, friend areas are cool but really fucking annoying to use, and while I enjoy the postgame, it's not as good as Explorers or Super for sure.
