In short, ice only works well if you’re willing to control the weather on the field. Game Freak fails at making strong ice gym leaders because they refuse to embrace use of better AI and items, one of the few things BDSP really improved upon. Surprise, surprise, Game Freak didn’t have as much control and we got more challenging fights.
