SM Satoshi isn't just a one trick horse. He has more then one fucking emotion although wacky faces are vast he does showcase care for others. Which is something xy satoshi failed to do. He was always serious and boring. Most people excused it as maturity and experience. Yet SM Satoshi has both a level of maturity and experience battling. XY satoshi was very humorless and almost crafted like to be sterile. Matsui fixed this issue and instead of just some boring 'I too stupid for the smart stuff' approach we got a very colorful character that has snark, cheats, but can be supportive of his friends.
In easier terms SM Satoshi is just a more youthful xy satoshi that acted like some old boring man that came out of a very sterile shonen mold for characters.
