SV had environmental storytelling where you find the aftermath of where Arven's mom/dad got brutally killed by the second 'raidon of the game and it get outright stated that was how the Professor died. Lusamine as a whole is complicated because they really backpedaled on her character in every other piece of media she appears in an attempt to redeem her but she did freeze some Pokemon into trophies and abused her kids. Pretty sure Guzma's dad almost definitely used to beat him, Kalos directly references Pokemon being used in wars in the past, Team Rocket did awful shit to lots of Pokemon, and so on. It just isn't obvious in-your-face stuff because Game Freak has an image to keep and a quota of family friendliness to meet. You just have to read between the lines.
