>>46744896It feels small because it is. It was designed for an original gameboy, and it shows. The map is tiny. There are gatehouses everywhere so that the game only loads the smallest amount possible. Almost all routes are just flat with some random grass and rock barriers thrown in.
None of this is a problem, as it was just the best they could do on the hardware. The issue I have is that all kanto remakes have done little/nothing to remedy the issues even once the reason for those issues was no longer present. Even going back to FRLG, they should've taken the opportunity to give Kanto more personality, make it feel more unique, expand the routes and give them interesting environments that the original games lacked, give Cinnabar island an actual volcano to explore, etc. And by the time of LGPE, there really wasn't the slightest excuse for still doing a 1:1 tile-by-tile recreation.
