>>39946751Depends. On their own it would probably be shit because they generally refuse to stick to an idea base.
People act like they regularly just do the same thing over and over but they really don't. Not on a large scale. Are all of the NSMB games kinda same-y? Sure, but they're not the only Mario games they've released in the last 15 years or whatever NSMB has existed, now are they?
I guess my point is on their own Nintendo would probably produce a bunch of shit that would feel like it should be main series but isn't. The TPC/GF divide for main series side series is or was good (and realistically, part of the reason the main series is going to shit is how much GF now has to do with the side series games - it exposes them to shit that just doesn't belong in the main series but they - by which I mean Masuda - want to bring it over anyway).
If the 3D "platformers" in the Mario series, for example, weren't made by Nintendo themselves I probably wouldn't have such disdain for them.
If, however, they kept with the spirit of Game Freak of the past and only developed the main series and kept on the ones who are actually good at their job from Game Freak - Sugimori, Morimoto, and Ohmura, for example - then there would probably be hope for the series.
Though either way at least it would no longer be under the control of Junichi "yearly = modern = good regardless of quality = no content is good for business" Masuda so it would likely still never be as bad as what it currently is.
