The original Japanese version says the Paradoxes came from alternate timelines. We know this because the Japanese version of both the base game encounter with the AI and the encounter at the Crystal Pool uses the exact same terminology to describe them. The English translation for the base game fucked that part up, but they got it right for the DLC encounter with Sada/Turo, which is what caused so much confusion amongst the English fanbase, especially here on /vp/
