The idea behind the JN hack writers is to set a precedent of a trainer beforehand, a character so strong that nu-Ash would and should actually lose.
Look at what we had in past generations losses: either trainers after trainers of assholes who barely managed to beat him in a completely unsatisfying way, or completely bullshit "charizard doesnt want to fight" or "my ebin legendary user".
Here, we've been shown how retardedly strong Leon is. Ash losing to him would be no surprise at all. Theres not gonna be this mass whining and death threat spam, definitely not on the level of previous instances (you know what im talking about). If Ash loses and people bitch about it, they'll be met with an undeniable truth:
>did you really think he would beat Leon?
>Did you even watch the show?
>The fact he managed to beat more than 2 pokemon is already a win on itself.
All this "bullshit", this whole Leon's "plot armor" is just a way for the writers to make a character Ash would fairly and believably lose to, without causing a ruckus. Lets be honest, nobody and I mean NOBODY would be surprised or tremendously upset if Ash loses 6-4 or something like that to Leon. They'd even celebrate him beating "more than 2 of Leon's Pokemon", which is what the writers have been pushing everyone to think.
