Gen 2 mons (like gen 1) had more detailed less flat anatomy, simple colors with the use of some blending, and pokemon with more physical details had less colors for a more natural look. Newer gen pokemon have simplified toylike anatomy, many colors with no blending to the point of plasticity, almost no balance of colors vs physical features with lots of pokemon having both.
