Terastal is also another nice idea in allowing variation and letting the Gym Leaders in SV use it is good in concept, but if they all use it in the same way as Brassius and as soon as possible, then there's no hope.
How I would handle it would depend if the game has difficulty options.
If it does, have easy mode use the basic monotype teams and moves we've seen throughout the series, normal mode add a specific battle strategy, and hard mode utilize both type and strategy to levels in seen in Stadium and post-game battle facilities.
If it does not, have it be the same as above, but with gyms 1-4 as easy, 5-8 as normal, and the Elite Four and Champion as hard.
Another idea would be to make the gyms dual type, be it same gym or even same gym leader with a different type depending on version, combining both types in either initial match or rematch, or adding it as an extra battle trick to my difficulty proposal above.
