What makes the player's trainer so special? Why do they black out?
The target in a pokemon battle is the trainer.
We already know Pokemon attack people in the wild, hence why it's dangerous to go into tall grass without a Pokemon to protect you, and from Pokemon X and Y we find out entire wars were fought with Pokemon... but why do people call battles dangerous?
This is why battling takes so much out of trainers, because they are always on the move. The player is the only trainer who doesn't threaten grievous bodily harm at the end of a battle other than like kids and casual trainers. This is why a pokemon battle with an evil team is so dangerous.
As for the prize money, a bribe? A legitimate prize? Extortion?
>TRAINER scurried to the nearest pokemon center, protecting the pokemon from further harm...
tfw running for your life and your pokemon's lives from a vastly superior trainer who just took your money after kicking you shitless
>But everybody in the Pokemon world is so nice and says such happy things about battling!
They're speaking to a child. You don't tell a kid about shit going on in the middle east, or about muggings and murder.
