Gen 6 really felt like a huge positive shift for the franchise, and was the last time Game Freak put in alot of effort into a Pokemon game. All the Pokemon were modeled from scratch and you could trade over your bros from past games only a few months later. I spent so much time WonderTrading on launch day. Trainer customization? Yes please. Talonflame is also not only the best regional bird, but the most useful, has a 10/10 design. And the starters are all really cool looking monsters with a great theme. Kalos was a beautiful region with varied landscapes.
Finally, MegaEvolution was the most fun I've had battling in a long time. Seeing you(your trainer) activate MEGA SHINKAN with their watch then seeing your Pokemon literally explode with power is something we'll never get to experience again, which sucks because if GF had kept that gimmick, EVERY Pokemon would have ended up getting one, even Flygon.
