One of those things is that people generally don't accept leftovers and such from other people because they already have their own.
Also those that want shinies never trade them for other shinies so shiny trading is rare, not to mention the fact that shinies as pokemon are rare too.
The sad thing is, I have a shiny Charmander that I have tried to give away, to no avail, but have lost the game it was on.
