Gen 7 gave us, objectively and undebatably, the highest difficulty we've had so far in a Pokemon game and while that still might be not a high bar in the grand scheme of things it's still a solid push in the right direction.
It also gave us boss pokemon which is something people have been wanting for a long ass time.
