Only ones that’re directly connected are Gen 1 - Gen 2, and Black and White - Black 2 and White 2 since they continue where the evil team left off the previous game, but the story in Pokémon isn’t usually a strong point in any sense.
In terms of remakes, I’ve been told that games like Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are generally inferior and gutted experiences in places compared to the original games, with stuff like 3D graphics and more bells and whistles like Mega Evolutions being the selling points. Inversely games like HeartGold and SoulSilver are said to be excellent remakes of Gold and Silver, but don’t take my word to heart about remakes cuz I never played the originals, I’m just repeating hearsay from the board
