Basically a STAB, higher priority Fake Out, and keeping in theme of speed and sneak attacks, it could possibly bypass and stop Protects as well.
Honestly, looking at the line's various entries: It's hard to really justify them as Poison types. Seems more like Dark to me. GF sort of treated Poison as a pseudo-Dark type in Gen 1 anyway, they may as well should've retyped them at the time when they had the chance.
