I agree on shiny pokemon 100% but gamefreak should have changed the way pokemon were trained a long time ago. Other pokemon media make people like Silver and Paul out to be bad guys but the games force you to play that way. Not only that but the games themselves and even the official guides up until gen 4 did little to educate players on how any of this works. I don't know if these mechanics where ever supposed to be known or manipulated they way they are now and genning is just a side effect.
