Well like I said, I found a bunch of articles with a similar phrase, but these articles are typically a decade old, if not older...
I guess someone in the writing room for GF remembered it, but realised that having Kiki vomit blood would be too much for the age rating.
Anyway, there's a fucking Yahoo answers page from 2010 that questions "What kind of study is it that makes you vomit blood?" and most people agree that it's metaphorical, because the only way that'd actually happen is if you got a stress ulcer.

Would have been better if Kieran snapped and started clobbering the shit out Drayden's grandkid (forgot his name) resulting in the protag with Carmine and co. having to forcefully separate them. Kieran then gets expelled and his story arc continues as his life spirals out of control where he becomes the main antagonist for the next gen game as an Admin for the next evil Team.
