How are the dynamics in your area?
I stay in two cities depending on the day of the week. In one Valor dominates most of the city with some Instinct and Mystic now and there but Mystic seems to be better defenders of the few gyms they have. On the other the city is dominated by Valor and Instinct during day but once the working hours end Mystic takes over the city. I guess since schools have two shifts here (morning and afternoon) we have school kids playing in these time frames and they are mostly Valor and Instinct while Mystic probably are workers and college students so they dominate the city when the working hours end and it is too late for kids to be out playing.
