I think one of Digimon's little secret great ideas is that your Digimon's growth is determined by how you care for it, so your monster's power isn't just reflected in some numbers, but also how it looks. So getting an evolution like Phoenixmon or MegaSeadramon felt that much more amazing because you earned it. And that Machinedramon battle music still strikes a cord.
Digimon World 2 was okay. I liked that many more Digimon could be obtained, and having a 3v3 battlefield meant there was more strategy involved, but it was ridiculously laggy and slow for no goddamn reason.
Digimon World 3 was...well I didn't particularly enjoy this one, unfortunately. There were so many cool ideas, but the battle system never really grew on me, and didn't have memorable music like DW and DW2 did.
