HOWEVER, I do think this Gen is different with the fact that it is a self-insert, notice the fact that you can completely customize him/her? That right there proves it's a self-insert, not a character. Although, I must say, in today's world a simple option question like, "Is your rival a girl or a boy?" Wouldn't be a difficult thing to include.
