>>35251865Great in terms of gameplay, awful in terms of narrative. BW's story is a dumb mess that tries to take on an interesting idea but doesn't give it the attention or weight it deserves, at all. The result is a shallow story that requires a massive suspension of disbelief to take seriously. This could have been avoided if they'd done it right but they didn't. B2W2 do their best to remedy this and work with what BW laid down but it's seriously not nearly as good as the subject material demands.
Anyone who claims to like the story, BW's in particular, seriously needs to rethink some things. Especially if they've ever complained about the quality of Gen 6 and 7's writing or the amount of times the player is interrupted by the story. Every bad narrative trend that seems to urk people so much in Gens 6 and 7 starts in Gen 5, but for whatever reason this seems to go largely ignored. Personally I attribute this to a sort of nostalgiafaggotry, because I find it hard to believe it's a coincidence people go gaga over Gen 5, which just happens to be the last Gen to use sprites over 3D models. Likewise, anyone who pretends Gen 5's animated sprites aren't mediocre at best and complete dogshit at worst seriously needs to take another look and reevaluate their sense of taste.
I love these games for how much their is to do but getting to that stellar postgame is a fucking struggle, and isn't worth the trouble in BW's case.
