I don't really know enough about how 4kids affected pokemon to defend them there. But their death actually did affect how anime is marketed in the west.
Right now the only long running anime that air on soccermom-friendly networks are yugioh, pokemon, and digimon. Established brands. Censorship is more and more frowned on in terms of anime and no company is as willing to go to expensive lengths to censor as 4kids was.
If My Hero Academia, for example, were released in the early 2000s it would have the swearing and sexual remarks cut, allowing it to run on childrens channels and have reruns that last forever, now it doesn't.
4kids retarded edits made it possible to market anime to conservative american middle class families. Now that is dead don't be surprised if the next few generations see a massive drop in children growing up with anime.
Anime stopped being censored as much, but the same amount of moms prevent their kids from watching boobs and swearing and little girls getting creeped on.
