There was nothing Crustle could do that would have killed Gengar before Hex went back online as his Auto Attack is too slow, you can see in the WEBM that the exact moment Crustle even uses the wall, before the wall is even out of the ground, Gengar's Hex is ready.
There was nothing in Crustle's kit that would have allowed him to kill Gengar in time. Even if he didn't use Rock Tomb, Gengar was already walking away, and since Crustle didn't have Shell Smash (which also takes time to activate, just about as much time as it takes to summon the Rock Tomb wall), Gengar could have just ran away long enough to stall for the half second remaining until his next Hex.

There wasn't a single misplay on Crustle's part, he had zero options, Hex beat every single thing he could have done. There's no defending this.
