What sorts of in-universe challenges would a Pokemon or its trainer experience when attempting to become champion, or just establish themselves in the world? I'm assuming the Pokemon world is much more realistic, with income concerns, taxation, conflict within teams, items not being laid out for passing trainers, and real gym challenges.
Looking for more. Personality issues, distractions, Pokemon ditching trainers for other ones, etc. How do you create a world where pokemon are real and fantastic while being just as mundane and regular as the concept of our "Rooty-tooty point-and-shooties" are to us?
