Pokemon home will have sprite-based battling with all existing pokemon. You can get items for your Pokemon within Pokemon home as rewards for storing a certain number of mons or whatever.
Pokemon transferred from the main series can be used in Home to do a lot of things; battles, contests are back, all in 2-D, of course, to harken back to the Nostalgia era (and save on processing power).
