Forgot to reply to this bit.
As I imagine things, at this point in my life as a biker/trainer, my team is pretty set and I only really catch weaker Pokemon, in the sense that they wouldn't make it in the wild (left for dead, injured, abandoned, lost, etc). It's how I imagine I would catch a Larvitar, no mom, too young to survive on it's own, maybe kinda wandered into camp one night to keep warm.
My Mankey was definitely caught in a regular Pokeball, thanks to the help of that annoying old man in Virdian, on Route 22, and all the rest vary (undecided, literally just made all this)
