Top gen 1 picks:
>Nidoran
Male is objectively superior to female. Horn Attack early game is amazing, and you can get Nidoking as early as Mt Moon. His stats start to fall off late-game, but he makes up for it with an amazing TM movepool.
>Abra
Easy to evolve after Misty using the daycare after which it outclasses all other psychic types. Strong moves with tons of PP, top-tier stats, tons of utility. No idea what GF was thinking when balancing him.
>Oddish
Really good for the early-mid game and is the most useful grass type. Absorb is great against all the rock/ground types you fight, and it learns Sleep Powder really early. It only falls off late-game because of the psychic weakness. Other grassers (including Bulbasaur) are stuck with Vine Whip, which doesn't heal and has half the PP.
>Spearow/Doduo
Effectively the same Pokemon, where Doduo is stronger but appears later. Drill Pick makes them the best non-legendary flyers in R/B.
>Dugtrio
It's boring, but a level 31 Dugtrio before Surge is absurd. Dig is a really good move in gen 1.
Unfortunately it doesn't learn Cut until yellow.
>Jolteon
Best non-legendary electric type. After teaching it Thunderbolt it will carry you through the elite 4. Completely outclasses the other eeveelutions.
>Charmander (yellow)
Cut + Dig + Fly + Strength. By far the best starter that's worth keep around purely as an HM slave. Better in yellow where it learn Fly, but still good in R/B.
