Psychic was never really meant to be a strong type, yet a shitload of legendaries were psychic in earlier generations, mew, mewtwo, celebi, lugia,, latios, latias, jirachi, deoxys, etc(thankfully this stopped past gen 4).
But fairy IS going to be a good type, they'll be the best threat to the current strongest type(dragon), so it makes sense that some legendaries become fairy types.
Not to mention how Mew/Celebi/Jirachi/Manaphy/Azelf&friends are oftenly called "pixie legendaries"
One more thing. Mewtwo's X form is going to be fairy, and the unreleased Y form will be dark, just like xerneas and yvetal, I'm calling for it
