Gardevoir-Trainer is in shock because she's lost her most active senses, so it's like going blind and deaf. Imagine being able to feel everyone's thoughts and feelings but then suddenly having that cut off. You'd feel cold and alone, like you're in solitary confinement.
Trainer-Gardevoir gets the opposite: he feels everything everybody feels all the time and has all their thoughts blaring in his head. How can he focus with constant noise? How does he know how to filter what he actually thinks or feels from what someone else does? Plus he'd feel the suffering his Gardevoir felt from her lack of connection.
