As a kid, the gloves were the most prominent feature of those sorts of outfits, so my mind associated them with the girls wearing them. They became a decidedly feminine accessories. Later when I hit puberty and became attracted to women, the feminine association evolved into a full-blown fetish. Much like what the other anon described. Still, maybe I'm biased, but I don't think it's all that of an outlandish association. Elbow gloves are sometimes paired with lingerie.
