Red is basically just his Ash incarnation of the OS if he was allowed to mature without the reset button.
The main story is the Pokemon league competition with PWT elements thrown in, post Gen I-characters appear as competitors or spectators. Background chapters have really interest/emotional depictions of game events and headcanons.
Red and Misty don't fuck, but they might as well. The artist is a huge Mistyfag and HanadaShipper/PokeShipper and there are teases here and there.
