I felt not lazy for once, so I actually filled it with the faces instead of just typing it all out. Now I'm gonna type it out, too.
>FireRed and LeafGreen
They're good fun. Feels really outdated and kind of empty, but it's still good.
>HeartGold and Soul Silver
Johto oozes charm for me. I love the region itself. It's the perfect balance of urban and rural influences. The game does have issues with level scaling and such, though.
>Emerald
Good fun, but still feels really outdated. Battle Frontier is great.
>Platinum
Tons of content, best story and characters overall, fun region to explore. Platinum is just plain solid in how good it is.
>Black and White
Unova is extremely boring to travel though, they try way too hard to make you care about the mediocre story, and overall the game just falls flat. Post game is also extremely lacking.
>Black 2 and White 2
Fixes everything. Content rivaling Platinum, most polish of any Pokemon game, Unova is larger and more diverse, story doesn't feel as intrusive, and the characters aren't as boring. Had some good "IT'S HAPPENING" moments in the story.
>X and Y
They're a step back. The story is still bad, but in this case not because it's plain boring like usual, but because there's so much wasted potential in it. The main issue is the lacking post-game, but the Looker Quest is the best chunk of story in mainline while it lasts, and breeding is actually viable now, making competitive something worth caring about in-game.
