Humans are WAY stronger in the Pokemon universe than they are in our universe. Black Belts, Psychics, Fire Breathers, etc train with their own Pokemon, literally, testing each other and tempering their own abilities alongside by competition as well as teaching. By extension, the durability and athletic skill of the average human in the Pokeverse is also far above the capabilities of our humans. Lance's Dragonite, for example, held back when using Hyper Beam against the Rocket Grunt in Mahagony Town, but he was still hit by and and withstood a Hyper Beam from a fully evolved psuedo while still only being incapacitated.
