Basing it off DnD also allows me to reflavor many of their monsters as Pokemon while using them mechanically. It also helps that I'm tailoring it for my specific group, which is semi-new to TTRPGs and has the most fun when nudged at an adventure.
That's true. I feel like that's what makes it such a perfect setting for a tabletop campaign, haha. It's the same reason why DnD is popular- a large, open space for adventure, filled with both danger and interesting things.
