>>38729842Here in Chile it was mostly an anime thing: afternoon TV shows were big at the time, so elementary school kids would rush from school to watch TV alone or with friends and comment about the last episode of their favorite anime with their friends at school the next day. Digimon, Yugi-Oh and of course Pokémon were amongst the most popular ones.
In addition to that, many brands wanted to ride on the bandwagon and many Pokémon licensed products appeared.
