I really like Unova's. They had a lot of fun with them, like with the Lacunosa residents all going inside at nighttime, or Opelucid being a completely different style based on the version.
Johto had great towns too. Ecruteak and Olivine are really cozy

Even though Lacunosa residents claim to no longer believe this old story, they still stay inside of their houses at night and the walls remain standing to this day.

Is there a Pokémon town/city with a deeper lore than this?

I don't even get the BW1 map hate. there's a lot of branches off the routes and everything's so pretty that you don't even notice how linear the actual routes are. also all the locations like dragonspiral tower are really cool. not to mention the towns, some of the best in the series.

I feel like there wasn't much effort put into setting each city apart until gen 5, in which every city has either a unique landmark and/or architecture. There's usually a defining aspect to each city and sometimes it was even tied to the operations of its respective gym leader.

Lacunosa Town. All those bridges and underpasses make you feel like you're in a tiny maze that isn't confusing. Those walls give off safety vibes and you know those houses are gonna be warm and cozy to keep out Kyurem's cold.
