>>50658580Overall I like baby pokemon but like anything GF does, their execution is confusing and all over the place
Creating basic stages for pokemon that are too strong to catch early game, or subjectively look “too big” is a nice idea. Flesh out evolution lines more (because who likes single-stage mons) while allowing more early-route pokemon.
Some make sense. Elekid and Magby seem logical while others don’t make any sense at all. I still can’t see jigglypuff as a stage 1 mon even 8 gens later, it was designed to be a basic stage mon. Pichu to me almost seems to have been created for the sake of marketing baby pokemon by riding the coattails of the franchise’s mascot.
It’s also odd how often they chose to execute their method of rectifying one-stage lines. They did two large drops of babies in Gen 2 and 4, the two generations that introduce the smallest amount of new pokemon lines, then just stopped until gen 8. Also it’s odd what pokemon they chose to give babies to when compared to others (if mantine got one why not skarmory? Same with girafarig since wynaut is a thing).
I think they should continue to introduce original lines where the basic stage is a baby, like riolu and toxel. Maybe retcon others like darumaka. They’re fun to collect but please no more incense nonsense.
