When people talk about the peak between Gens 3 through 5 they're talking about Emerald, Platinum, HeartGold/SoulSilver, and Black 2/White 2. None of those games were directed by Masuda and often improved upon mistakes Masuda made in the originals.
Ohmori comes with his own problems though, his games are too linear and have too much narrative and handholding.
