Now come back and say X/Y's singleplayer is easy. TBH it's one of the harder games if you don't utilize those tools.
At any rate, they can streamline the breeding and EV training mechanics all they want. There's still nothing in the game that tells you how to do it.
EV training might be easy now, but I'd dare say that it's impossible to figure out how to breed without prior knowledge or access to the internet. The barrier to entry for competitive pokemon is still insane. The destiny knot helps, but the whole thing is majorly fucked up.
Pokemon is a kid's game. Sure adults can enjoy it, but it was made for and marketed to kids. Can you imagine how soul crushing it is for a kid to finish the singleplayer, go online and then have his entire team be unable to even dent some genetically perfect pokemon, let alone the rest of its team?
I actually enjoy the breeding process, I find it enjoyable and relaxing. When you finally get all those IVs to line up, it's a nice thrill and a wonderful feeling of accomplishment. That said, Nintendo really needs to just normalize everyone's IVs when going online for Battlespot. JUST Battlespot, mind you - challenging people to normal 6v6 matches should still use the pokemon's usual IVs. It would really make everyone happy in the end - the casuals get to actually play online without getting completely crushed by people who sank 100+ hours into breeding their perfect team, and the competitives still get to play each other as normal. At the moment, playing anything but the singleplayer is simply impossible if you're not willing to put the work, research and many, many hours into breeding.
