I really don't know what Ueda was going for, I think this is the first time I've genuinely disliked a Pokemon's Japanese voice. When he evolved he cried out like it was supposed to be cool/intimidating but he has this weird teenager-with-his-voice-breaking sort of sound. Maybe that's intentional? He was this little cutemon and now he's a teenager? I dunno, I just find his voice in a really bad spot between sounding cute and sounding cool and it ends up being neither.
