I mean, of course I get that it's supposed to encourage trading, but why would I ever trade away something that I want to evolve when I can't get it back? You can't even really say that you're supposed to gift them to people because of the IV randomization, so at best you can say that you're giving your trade partner a lottery ticket to MAYBE get a decent Pokemon for "free" (Not counting the stardust cost). And because that shitty deal exists, I have to spend 200 goddamn candies if I want to evolve one for myself?
