I personally always wanted to see them as kids. I bet Clair was his shadow, following him on his own adventure and being really smug and bratty about the successes of a cape-wearing 3cool5u boy with three Dragonairs.
As adults they're still stuck in a cycle of Clair being rash -> getting chided by Lance -> her being embarrassed about it, so I wonder if her arrogance was even worse back then, or if age just did nothing to mellow, tame or ground her.
