>>43808750This. It doesn't even need to be a literal move, just have it be a technique you can teach Pokemon, but it doesn't effect battles.
Or, and this will never happen but, have it be an open-world game with Pokemon having specific abilities. Like, you can't surf on a Luvdisk but you can a Blastoise. You can't fly on a Natu but you can a Fearrow. It'd make it a little annoying that your traveling team may have to be based around their abilities in the overworld, but it'd add more realism and make it feel like a real adventure. I rather ride the Gigalith that I've been training up a mountain side than have to carry a HM Slave Bibarel around.
Even without an open world, you can still do the Rotom Bike/Poke-Ride thing better. Just have you use your own Pokemon, but you have to somehow unlock permits or safety gear or something. Like, an average trainer isn't allowed to just ride their Pokemon wildly in public for safety reasons, but as you get Gym Badges, that shows you have the ability to control your Pokemon and it unlocks an equivalent to a driver's license. It'd even be staggered, like 4 gym badges shows you're good enough to surf responsibly, but you still have to prove yourself to be allowed to fly in public air-space.
It'd take away some of the fantasy and freedom of being in a wild setting like the Pokemon world we used to be imagined as kids, but it's still a far better take than making you dress-up in safety clothes and only being allowed to use designated Pokemon in designated areas to 'keep you safe'.
