I've done tons of runs with many different Pokemon just to try them because I hadn't used them before, or because I Nuzlocked and ended up getting so-called shitmons I HAD to use.
Here's an example: I didn't like Carbink when it was released. It didn't evolve, its design was basically a floating rock with bunny ears, why use it when there were more interesting Pokemon? When I ran a blind UM Nuzlocke I suddenly had to use it, as per the rules of the game. I wasn't happy at first, but it filled a niche my team was lacking that I needed filled. It ended up coming in for the clutch in several battles and I found the Refresh animations for it surprisingly adorable. I went from thinking very poorly of this Pokemon to loving it over the course of the game, and being absolutely crushed when it was KO'd versus Ultra Necrozma.
This is just one case of many. Furfrou, Throh, Chimecho, hell I even really liked my Lumineon I used in Diamond and that is constantly shit on for being an inferior Seaking, an already underwhelming water type fish. Point is there's a Pokemon somewhere someone likes, it might not be their favorite but they like it nonetheless.
