It was my first time seeing Shuckle so I assumed it was just blue.
Then I got the one that npc gave you and saw that it was red and Ibjust assumed that they came in different colors.
I eventually deleted that save file.
It wasn't until HGSS where I encountered a shiny Zubat that I knew what shinies were, hell back in Gold I fainted the shiny Gyarados.
