You're saying this like it makes him some kind of blatant mary sue, and by extension a bad character, when he was framed by the narrative to be in the WRONG the entire game, and one of the points of the plot was to try to make him see the fault of his biased, tunnel vision logic. Having the ability to talk to Pokemon didn't help him any, and instead acted as more of a detriment to him. Because being able to hear them and being able to
understand them are two different things.
