>>41091915No, this isn't true. X/Y started development in June 2010 before BW were even out. While I don't doubt that the Kanto nostalgia was due to gen 5's backlash, I don't think it's why the games got sucky. Masuda said he put his heart and soul into x/y. I think the big issues are Game Freak aiming for a brainlet mobile market and not knowing how to make 3D games properly.
Maybe things would have went different if gen 5 was received better, but I don't think they would have been much.
